Bruce James has served as President and CEO of Union Hospital (Dover, OH) now Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital since July 2009. Bruce serves as a non-voting member of OHA’s Board of Directors and is an Ohio delegate to AHA Regional Policy Board Region 5. In addition, Bruce is currently on the Board of Tuscarawas County Community Improvement Corporation, Kent State University Tuscarawas Nursing Advisory Council and other community organizations. Prior to accepting his current position, Bruce had served as the chief executive at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (Rock Springs, WY), Sumner Regional Medical Center (Gallatin, TN) and St. Michael Hospital (Milwaukee, WI). Bruce has also worked in senior leadership positions at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, now St. Thomas - Rutherford (Murfreesboro, TN) and St. Joseph’s Mercy of Macomb, now Henry Ford Macomb (Clinton Township, MI). Bruce began his career as a management engineer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio in 1980. Bruce has a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia College (Milledgeville) and a Master of Science in Health Systems from Georgia Tech (Atlanta). He is married to Bonnie, a human resources executive, and they have one daughter, Laurie.
