Summary
Julia Gorecki, MBA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, is Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital. With more than 30 years of progressive nursing and hospital leadership experience, Gorecki excels at strategic and operational planning, leadership development and ensuring safe, high-quality care environments. In her role, she leads nursing practice and operations, motivating teams to achieve high-level, results-driven outcomes. Prior to her current position, Gorecki spent seven years at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, serving most recently as Associate Chief Nursing Officer, and in two nursing director positions. She helped foster the hospital’s integration into Cleveland Clinic health system, led the development of its ethics program and implemented impactful strategies that improved quality and safety in patient care.
Gorecki’s tenured healthcare career began in 1984, and spans direct patient care, quality, nursing operations, care management, emergency services and administration. In addition to Cleveland Clinic, she has worked for Cleveland-based University Hospitals (UH), MetroHealth Medical Center and Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Her first clinical positions were in surgical intensive care and flight nursing at UH. She was recruited to Mt. Sinai in 1992 to serve as head nurse of a complex medical floor and join the hospital ethics committee. In 1994, she began a 20-year leadership trajectory at MetroHealth that included roles as a nurse manager for two surgical intensive care units, nursing supervisor and coordinator in informatics, and director positions in nursing operations, quality and emergency services. Gorecki is Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified (NEA-BC) and holds a Master of Business Administration with a focus in healthcare administration and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in bioethics and is a member of the American Nurses Association and American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.

Leadership
Gorecki is a devoted leader who is effective in collaborating across matrix organizations and healthcare disciplines. Her developed relationship-building skills enable her to cultivate teams, promote quality patient care, facilitate programs and support caregivers to personal and professional success. Her commitment to lead with integrity, compassion, conscientiousness and loyalty to the nursing profession is evident by the many Cleveland Clinic committees, task forces and affinity groups she belongs to, as well as her professional industry affiliations. As ACNO at Akron General, her leadership in policy, process and nursing labor union planning achieved staffing levels that supported quality and safety in care delivery and improved patient satisfaction. As a director, she led the initiation of the Medical Emergency Team (MET) RN program, establishing a clinical leadership role to support bedside nurses with complex assessment and first responders with rapid response and code events. Her work reduced code events to less than 5% on the nursing floor. At MetroHealth, she led infection prevention nurses to stand up an emerging disease unit during the Ebola outbreak of 2014, earning an ANCC Magnet® Exemplar recognition for her work.

Gorecki’s clinical expertise lies within the areas of surgical, emergency/trauma and critical-care nursing.
Teaching
Gorecki is a firm believer in career-long learning, serving as a mentor and resource to nurse leaders, clinical specialists, educators and staff. In 2022, she completed Cleveland Clinic’s Executive Nurse Fellowship, and she is currently enrolled in the organization’s Nursing Ethics Faculty Fellowship. She has fulfilled two director positions in which nursing education was a key component, and is experienced in orientation curriculum development, student nurse practicum assignment, nurse competency and assessment. Gorecki is highly knowledgeable in healthcare ethics and teaches others about nursing ethics and bioethics. She has been a faculty member for the Akron General Nursing Ethics program since 2020 and has led ethics education programming for nurses in Akron General’s Nurse Residency for several years. She co-chaired the Akron General Ethics Committee for six years and continues her involvement in the hospital’s Ethics Ambassador program.
Research & Publications
Gorecki is known to deliver local and national podium and poster presentations, often for the work she’s done through the Cleveland Clinic Center for Bioethics. She developed an approach to ethics rounds in the neuroscience intensive care unit, as well as an expanded version for Cleveland Clinic’s Ethics Caregiver Resource program. She has presented both programs at national conferences and has been published in The Journal of Clinical Ethics.
