Adult Epilepsy: Seizure Severity

2007 - 2021

Seizure Severity in Medically Treated Adult Epilepsy Patients (N = 3130)

2007 – 2021

The effect of medical treatment on seizure severity was assessed using the Liverpool Seizure Severity Scale (LSSS), a validated patient-completed questionnaire developed to quantify seizure severity. Of the 3130 patients seen from 2007 through 2021, 37.3% improved, 43.8% remained stable, and 18.9% had a worsening in seizure severity. Clinically meaningful change was defined as a total point change of ≥ 5.¹

Seizure Severity in Surgically Treated Adult Epilepsy Patients (N = 560)

2007 – 2021

Of the 560 surgical patients seen from 2007 through 2021, 72.9% improved, 16.1% remained stable, and 11.1% had a worsening in seizure severity from pre- to post-surgery. Clinically meaningful change was defined as a total point change of ≥ 5.¹
