Overview

Allergic and immunologic disorders, including asthma, have become much more common. Allergies now affect an estimated 50 million Americans.

Our Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology is one of the largest in the United States, and is committed to excellence in patient care, research, education and advocacy. We offer comprehensive and evidence-based diagnosis and management for adults and children with conditions within the spectrum of allergic/immunology disorders, including asthma, food allergy, atopic dermatitis (eczema), year-round and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), anaphylaxis, sinusitis, angioedema (swelling), urticaria (hives), stinging insect allergy, common variable immunodeficiency, aspirin sensitivity syndromes, chronic cough and drug allergy.

Our physicians also have experience in diagnosis and treatment of rare and difficult-to-treat conditions including C1 inhibitor deficiency syndromes, severe asthma, systemic mast cell disorders (e.g. mastocytosis), resistant-to-treat urticaria and complex disorders of the immune system. We offer extensive evaluations that may include skin testing and challenge procedures to rule out or confirm a diagnosis.

For patients with allergic or immunologic disorders, we offer a broad range of treatment options including medications, biologic agents, immunoglobulin replacement, drug desensitization and allergen immunotherapy.

Research & Clinical Trials

Research & Clinical Trials

Clinical trials (or research studies) help us create the medicine of tomorrow. They provide hope through offering testing of new drugs, new surgical techniques or other treatments before they are widely available.

We can help you access hundreds of clinical trials across all specialty areas. Our new searchable online trials tool makes identifying treatment opportunities easier than ever.

The fellowship includes exposure to a wide range of patients with common and uncommon conditions. Fellows work closely with faculty who are dedicated to fulfilling the educational mission of the Cleveland Clinic, through both immunology and allergy treatments and elective rotation in asthma, dermatology, otolaryngology, pulmonary and critical care, radiology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, and/or other areas. Virtual Second Opinions

If you cannot travel to Cleveland Clinic, help is available. You can connect with Cleveland Clinic specialists from any location in the world via a phone, tablet, or computer, eliminating the burden of travel time and other obstacles.

If you’re facing a significant medical condition or treatment such as surgery, this program provides virtual access to a Cleveland Clinic physician who will review the diagnosis and treatment plan. Following a comprehensive evaluation of medical records and labs, you’ll receive an educational second opinion from an expert in their medical condition covering diagnosis, treatment options or alternatives as well as recommendations regarding future therapeutic considerations. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to speak with the physician expert directly to address questions or concerns.
