To facilitate the screening and diagnosis of common sleep disorders, a free smartphone application, SLEEP by Cleveland Clinic, was developed, which estimates the risk of 4 of the most common disorders affecting sleep in adults. These 4 sleep disorders consist of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), insomnia, shift work sleep disorder, and insufficient sleep. The sleep app allows for the ability to assess sleep disorder risk, provides education on strategies to optimize sleep, and provides access to sleep specialist experts. A survey was conducted to assess risk and severity of these common sleep disorders. In 845 unique users, 78.6% had mild to severe symptoms of insomnia. Of the 667 users without prior OSA diagnosis, 59.8% had a high risk of OSA. Among the 81 users who reported working evening, night, or rotating shifts, 49.4% had a high risk of shift work sleep disorder. Screening via the sleep app is currently being integrated into clinical workflows at Cleveland Clinic.
