We have a short episode for you today. As we know, many of our listeners may be busy traveling or following along with the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Annual Meeting later this week in Miami.

My Cleveland Clinic colleagues from across the country are excited to be in Miami and present on a wide range of topics. If you want to connect with us while you're at the meeting, please stop by Booth #1409. That's Booth #1409 in the exhibit hall. We're looking forward to meeting you.

For a full list of our presentations and research be sure to follow us on our social media channels, and to learn more about the innovative research, collaboration and recruitment opportunities available with our otolaryngology-head and neck surgery program, visit ClevelandClinic.org/AAO24. That's ClevelandClinic.org/AAO24.

Today I wanted to shout out some presentations and featured research from our staff fellows, residents, and med students at the meeting. And here's just a preview if you're able to join us.

For early arrivers, our Section Head of Comprehensive Otolaryngology and the Residency Program Director, Dr. Kyra Osborne, helps to kick off the academy meeting with a pre-meeting called “Worst Case Scenarios.” This is a simulation course for otolaryngologists and residents taking place on Thursday, September 26th. She'll also be spending time at our booth throughout the meeting to talk with medical students who may be interested in learning more about our residency program. So for our younger listeners or those medical students who may be interested in our program, please be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

Next on day one of the meeting, Saturday, September 28th, we have some featured panels with facial plastic surgeon Michael Fritz, presenting a case-based panel on Mohs defect reconstruction. And our colleagues from Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr.’s Brian Burkey and Michael Medina lecturing on “The A to Z of Parotid Cancers Tumors.”

Sunday, September 29th is our busiest day at the meeting with panels featuring Ashley Mays from Cleveland Clinic Florida and Dr. Eric Lamarre, our Section Head of Head and Neck Oncology debating oral cavity margins for head and neck cancer, as well as otologist Dr. Ksenia Aaron speaking on ways to improve the surgical ergonomics in ENT – something all of us regardless of specialty can benefit from.

Next, Dr. Will Tierney, my colleague in our Voice Center and Laryngology, and frequent guest on Head and Neck Innovations, is moderating a panel in the afternoon “Interprofessional Tracheostomy Care: The Future of Tracheostomy Quality Improvement.”

Next, I want to offer a special shout out to Dr. Troy Woodard. He is a panelist on the session “Controversies in Medical and Surgical Management of Recalcitrant Chronic Rhinosinusitis.” Not only is he presenting at this meeting and in this panel, but he will be officially named the President of the Academy at the conclusion of this meeting. We're very proud of Dr. Woodard and we know he's going to do a great job in this role, and we're very excited for the leadership and innovation that he'll continue to bring to the academy.

On Monday, September 30th brings panels like “Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, Evidence and Controversies,” and that's going to feature one of our Vice Chairmen, rhinologist Dr. Raj Sindwani.

There are multiple cochlear implant updates on both Monday and Tuesday, with Dr. Sarah Sydlowski and Dr. Marc Bassim from our Hearing Implant Program, presenting the latest and greatest in the field, as well as a presentation on findings from a multi-institutional study on pediatric cochlear implantation from our pediatric otolaryngologist Dr. Samantha Anne.

And finally, to wrap up, be sure to stop by the poster hall. As a plug for myself and our Institute Chair, Dr. Patrick Byrne, there's going to be a poster on trends in medicare reimbursement of otolaryngology procedures and ambulatory surgery centers. And I'd also really like to highlight our medical student author on this, Mr. James Xu from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. James has been working in our group for the last few years and he has really leveraged his expertise in reimbursement and in database research. So please do stop by the lecture hall, and aside from Mr. Xu, I'd also like to commend any of our other medical students that we work alongside with. There's likely to be some other posters in the hall there, so please do give some time and stop by.

As we wrap up, a reminder that this has just been a snippet of our presentations, panelists and posters, so be sure to check out our social media channels throughout the meeting for daily presenter lists, as well as insights from our staff, residents and medical students on their featured research. And visit ClevelandClinic.org/AAO24 for more engagement opportunities with us during and after the meeting. We look forward to seeing you in Miami, and remember to stop by our Booth #1409 and say hello and grab some giveaways. As always, thanks for listening to Head and Neck Innovations.
