Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/28/2019, Dr. Medina has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

When the nurse came out with my paperwork, I noticed the doctor had forgotten to add a procedure we had discussed. When I asked her about it, she immediately went back to the doctor and came back within minutes with three correct papers.

Dr. Medina you Rock! He's absolutely the best and I feel like a Million Bucks

Reviewed on Feb 8, 2019

as a new pt, the first impression was less than favorable. he may be very skilled and my symptoms may be just "another one" but I should be treated with care and a sense of empathy. if my symptoms bore the provider, then maybe the provider should seek a new specialty for more excitement. a person in that position should appear interested in helping along with empathy toward the pt. sharing thoughts and strategies will feel like the pt has an input to their life rather than just rattling things off like we are just another PT with same issues.

Reviewed on Feb 7, 2019

Dr. Medina spent a good amount of time with me and was genuinely interested in my concerns and explaining everything so I could understand. I appreciated his attention and desire to provide exceptional care.

my experience with Dr Medina was very good he was very thorough, explained clearly my condition

Reviewed on Dec 28, 2018

We waited about 2.5 hours until the provider showed up. When he came in he didn't appologize or explain why we waited so long and he was very short with me at first. His nurse only came in once and said that "we haven't forgotten about you". Our daughter waited out in the car for 3 hours because the lobby was very cold. I had to go search for the nurse myself and couldn't find her. I found someone sitting at a computer and asked kindly if someone could come in and tell us what was going on. Shortly after that is when the doctor came in.

Reviewed on Dec 20, 2018

Did not give me many options except to drink water to keep me hydrated. I saw options on line which were not discussed with my doctor.
