About Paul C. Bryson, MD

Paul C. Bryson, MD, Director of the Cleveland Clinic Voice Center and Section Head of Laryngology, is an otolaryngologist who specializes in voice and swallowing rehabilitation

Dr. Bryson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2004 with honors. While in medical school, he decided to pursue a career in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and completed his residency training at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. After completing his training in North Carolina, he completed a fellowship in laryngeal surgery and voice rehabilitation at the Harvard Medical School Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for laryngeal surgery and voice rehabilitation.

His specialty interests encompass the full range of voice and oropharyngeal swallowing disorders including: medical and surgical care of the professional/performer's voice, benign vocal cord lesions such as nodules or polyps, vocal cord dysplasia or early cancer, vocal cord papilloma, vocal cord paralysis, neurolaryngological problems such as spasmodic dysphonia, Zenker's diverticulum and cricopharyngeal dysphagia. Dr. Bryson also sees adult patients with airway problems such as subglottic stenosis or bilateral vocal cord paralysis.

Since being recruited to the Cleveland Clinic in 2010, Dr. Bryson has expanded the scope of office-based procedures offered to patients including: vocal fold injection, laryngeal botox, trans-nasal esophagoscopy, videostroboscopy, and office based laser procedures for papilloma and vocal cord papilloma leukoplakia/dysplasia.

Within the Cleveland Clinic Voice Center, Dr. Bryson works collaboratively with speech-language pathologists who specialize in voice and swallowing disorders to offer patients a multi-disciplinary approach to their voice, swallowing, or airway problem.

Within otolaryngology, Dr. Bryson is a member of several professional societies including: The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO), The Triological society, the American College of Surgeons, and the Voice Foundation. He serves as a committee member of the airway and swallowing committee of the AAO.  He is on the executive council of the American Broncho-esophagology Association. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.

Almost every time I call doctors or for an appointment I get through in a very short time and am able to set up times that will work with my schedule. My last appointments with Doctor Bryson took a little longer but it was worth the wait and he always has taken as much time as it would take to answer all my questions and concerns. I would highly recommend him and his assistants.

I have a severe voice problem and communication is challenging. everyone in the otolaryngology was compassionate and respectful. Dr Bryson and his team were very focused And collaborated together for my benefit. I have not seen much success yet but we have a good plan.

Dr Bryson does a great job of communicating issues, options and possible outcomes when discussing any treatment. He takes the time to listen, has a good understanding of my health background and works to provide a solution - sometimes involving other health providers if he feels it will help. He makes the effort to offer creative approaches to addressing any health concern that I discuss with him. And he is an excellent surgeon.

I waited so long for an appt. it was cancelled due to Dr. Bryson being out then I finally had the appt and had to wait 40 minutes. Everytime I go to this office I have to wait. I left without being seen and will not see this provider anymore.

doctor has limited hours at suburban satellite office. scheduled appt was canceled meaning I had to take a vacation day to go to main campus. two hour wait to see doctor. liked seeing interns and residents but adds time to visit.

I have been Dr Bryson's patient since 2012. He is always professional, answers my questions- sometimes with diagrams- and works hard to try various solutions to help me. Dr B never gives up and never shows frustration relating to my case. He is the very best doctor I have.

CCF continues to put the caller in 'voice mail jungle", particularly when trying to schedule/ reschedule an appmt. or when trying to reach the Physician's office directly. On the other hand, once I did get to see Dr. Bryson & staff, he was congenial, informed, educative, a good listener and provided me with much useful information which I used to make some medical decisions. Top-notch.

Dr. Silva was not only an added source/presence during the examination and subsequent question and answer, but she: a.) called me with answers to my questions as to indicated next steps (patiently); b.) followed up with some clinical notes on MyChart which were intelligible to the average person, plus my wife, who is a trained nurse.
