Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery

Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery

Patients needing hip and knee replacement surgery, may be a candidate for robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery at Medina Hospital.

Robotic joint replacement surgery is intended for patients with joint disease and related persistent knee or hip pain resulting from degenerative, rheumatoid or post-traumatic arthritis who have not had success with non-surgical treatment.

Advantages of robotic-assisted technology include:

  • The robot operates with an unparalleled level of accuracy and precision.
  • The surgeon can create a surgical plan that takes into account the unique anatomy of the patient, making it easier for the surgeon to choose the correct implant size and placement.
  • Surgeons can do a virtual run-through prior to the actual surgery and adjust the surgical plan if needed.

It’s important to note that the robot does not perform the surgery, nor can it make decisions or move on its own. It requires the guidance of the orthopaedic surgeon.

Most patients can expect to spend one night in the hospital following surgery and some patients may go home the same day. Most hip replacement patients are back to normal activity within three to four weeks, and most knee replacement patients are back to normal activity within five to seven weeks.

Hand, Wrist & Elbow

Hand, Wrist & Elbow

Our physicians are dedicated to caring for all types of hand, wrist and elbow disorders. Conditions commonly treated include:

  • Fractures.
  • Dislocations.
  • Arthritis nerve injuries.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • Tendonitis.
  • Cysts.
  • Tumors.
  • Hand injuries.
  • Congenital (birth) hand deformities.

Many upper extremity problems can be relieved without surgery. However, when surgery is necessary, physicians recommend the most up-to-date options such as minimally invasive surgery. If appropriate for the patient, minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions and most patients benefit from less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
