Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery
Orthopaedic surgeons at Medina Hospital offer robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery as an option for hip and knee replacement patients.
The robotic-assisted replacement is the latest technology that is transforming the way knee and hip replacements are being performed. It provides each patient with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific diagnosis and anatomy.
Robotic joint replacement surgery is intended for patients with joint disease and related persistent knee or hip pain resulting from degenerative, rheumatoid or post-traumatic arthritis who have not had success with non-surgical treatment.
Advantages of robotic-assisted technology include:
- The robot operates with an unparalleled level of accuracy and precision.
- The surgeon can create a surgical plan that takes into account the unique anatomy of the patient, making it easier for the surgeon to choose the correct implant size and placement.
- Surgeons can do a virtual run-through prior to the actual surgery and adjust the surgical plan if needed to better execute the removal of the bone during surgery.
The robot does not perform the surgery, nor can it make decisions or move on its own without the guidance of the orthopaedic surgeon.
Most patients can expect to spend one night in the hospital following surgery. Select patients who are healthy enough can go home the same day. Most hip replacement patients are back to normal activity within three to four weeks, and most knee replacement patients are back to normal activity within five to seven weeks.

Shoulder
It's important to seek help from an orthopaedic expert who is familiar with the full spectrum of shoulder problems and treatments. Our orthopaedic specialists will review conservative treatment approaches such as physical therapy, pain relievers and injections, as well as surgical options including arthroscopic, rotator cuff and shoulder surgery.

Hand, Wrist & Elbow
Our certified physicians are dedicated to caring for all types of hand, wrist and elbow disorders. Conditions commonly treated include fractures and dislocations, arthritis nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, cysts and tumors, hand injuries, and congenital (birth) hand deformities. Many upper extremity problems can be relieved without surgery. However, when surgery is necessary, physicians recommend the most up-to-date options such as minimally invasive surgery. If appropriate for the patient, minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions and most patients benefit from less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
