What are urinary tract infections?
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are primarily bacterial infections that affect the urinary tract. This tract is not an single entity but a system comprised of several organs, the most significant of which are the kidneys, ureters which connect the kidneys to the bladder, the bladder and urethra which drains the bladder.
The most common bacteria seen in these infections is Escheria Coli. It accounts for up to 80% of all infections. Other bacteria which can infect the system include Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Mycoplasma hominis.
