Lung Imaging

Lung scans are performed on a routine basis. There is no risk of allergy or renal insufficiency from the tracer used for lung scan. Certain precautions are taken including reducing the dose of the tracer in pregnant women.

We offer the following lung scanning procedures:

  • V/Q scan for pulmonary embolism
  • Lung perfusion quantification prior to resection of lung tumor, lung transplant evaluation, or emphysema and lung volume reduction surgery
  • Shunt evaluation in patients with right to left shunt
  • Lung shunt quantification in patients needing radiomicrosphere therapy of liver tumors
