Cardiac Transplant Program

Cleveland Clinic Children's Cardiac Transplant Team consists of transplant-trained pediatric cardiologists, a nurse practitioner, a transplant coordinator registered nurse, as well as additional caregivers from cardiothoracic surgery, infectious disease, nursing, immunology, psychology, pharmacology, exercise physiologist, invasive cardiology, nutrition, Child Life, art therapy, social work and palliative medicine.

Our heart failure/transplantation team assesses and treats children with heart failure. Providing alternatives to pediatric heart transplants, such as a mechanical heart, which may offer lifesaving treatment or act as a bridge to heart transplantation.

What we treat

  • Cardiomyopathy due to unremitting arrhythmias
  • Chemically induced cardiomyopathy/cardio-oncology
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease with advanced heart failure, who have failed medical treatment and need to be evaluated for heart transplant
  • Left ventricle non-compaction
  • Restricted cardiomyopathy
  • Retransplantation

Heart Failure Program

Cleveland Clinic Children’s heart failure/transplantation team assesses and treats children with heart failure. We provide advanced medical care, and when necessary, a mechanical circulatory support “artificial heart” to help the sickest children until they are able to receive a transplant.

Our team consists of transplant-trained cardiologists, a nurse practitioner, a transplant coordinator registered nurse, as well as additional caregivers from cardiothoracic surgery, infectious disease, nursing, immunology, psychology, pharmacology, nutrition, art therapy, social work and palliative medicine.

Services provided

We provide assisted devices in single ventricles and are currently establishing and innovating new means of infant artificial hearts. We offer many ventricular devices such as:

  • Berlin Heart EXCOR
  • CentriMag and PediMag Rotaflow
  • HeartWare
  • HeartMate 3
