Overview

Overview

Tumors, as well as acquired and developmental abnormalities of the upper and lower jaws, can severely affect facial appearance and critical functions such as eating and speech. Whether a patient faces a new diagnosis of a jaw tumor or has been suffering facial deformity after trauma or previous surgery, experts in oromaxillofacial surgery, facial reconstruction and prosthodontic restoration will combine efforts to optimize appearance and dental/oral function.

At Cleveland Clinic, our routine collaborative approach includes coordinated preoperative planning. This allows for simultaneous removal of tumors and/or re-alignment of bones, along with complex reconstruction as needed. These efforts are coordinated to permit full dental restoration when possible.

Given the extensive experience of our surgeons, use of technical modeling is often not required. However, three-dimensional reconstructions, virtual preoperative planning and intraoperative guides to optimize and speed reconstruction are uses for complex cases.
