About the Program
Our mission is to provide college students who are considering a career in medicine a chance to see what it is like to live and work as a doctor.
The CARE Program is a part time (20 hours/week) hands-on summer clinical experience with professional/career development at Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Center.
A $3,000 stipend is provided to participants. Stipend will be paid in full at program completion. View the Requirements for details.
Students will be chosen annually to participate in this program. Successful applicants can choose up to four clinical specialties for the rotation:
- Hematology Oncology.
- Radiation Oncology.
- Surgical Oncology.
- Palliative Medicine.
Clinical Rotation Overview
During the 8-week clinical rotation, you will spend time with the teams that care for cancer patients either in the hospital or a cancer clinic.
You will be paired with an advisor who will facilitate your stay and direct you to the appropriate resources. The advisor will also serve as a mentor, offering career guidance during your rotation at Cleveland Clinic.
You will be given a list of conferences that will take place during the rotation along with the time necessary to attend these conferences. A member of the House Staff Association will be assigned to help you find your way around campus and Cleveland.
You will meet with the Director of Graduate Medical Education or their delegate to learn more about Cleveland Clinic’s training programs. You will also meet with residency/fellowship program director(s) of the specialty(ies) in which the rotation is taking place, and you will be invited to social events with other scholarship recipients.
This program will be held from June 16—August 8, 2025.
*Absence policy: Students can miss one day for two weeks and three days for four weeks.
Characteristics of Successful Applicants
Any college student in good academic standing is encouraged to apply.
We strongly encourage applications from those who are historically underrepresented in medicine, such as members of minority racial and ethnic cultural groups, LGBTQI-identified or gender nonconforming individuals, those whose parents did not go to college, those who identify as having a lower income and individuals with disabilities.
