Overview

Overview

While cardiac sources of embolism and extracranial arterial disease have been studied extensively, non-atherosclerotic intracranial vascular disease is an uncommon cause of stroke that remains understudied. High-resolution vessel wall MRI imaging has allowed better characterization of the patterns of vascular lesion beyond luminal narrowing.

We use banked serum and cerebrospinal fluid samples to conduct proteomics or deep sequencing studies to understand the infectious and inflammatory causes of intracranial vasculopathies. In collaboration with Rula Hajj-Ali, MD and Leonard Calabrese, DO at the Center for Vasculitis Care and Research at Cleveland Clinic, a registry has been established to collect data.
