The table above displays the annual salaries of Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital's Internal Medicine residents based on the 2025-2026 academic year. These numbers are contingent upon the resident's level of training throughout the residency program. In addition to an annual salary, residents are also rewarded with excellent benefits.

Residents receive health coverage through the hospital’s flexible health benefits program, including dental and vision insurance.
Life insurance
Cleveland Clinic offers each resident and fellow a group life insurance policy for $25,000 after 30 days of employment.
Group long term disability (LTD)
The group plan covers 70 percent of your current monthly salary if you suffer from a disabling accident or illness on or off the job. Benefit payments begin after you have been unable to work for 90 days (elimination period) due to disability. The maximum monthly group LTD benefit is $3,000. For the first two years of disability, you will receive benefit payments while you are unable to perform your duties as a resident. After two years, you will continue to receive benefits if you cannot work as a doctor of medicine. This plan also includes partial disability and conversion benefits.
Interest-free loans
Residents may qualify for an interest-free loan of up to $4,800 through the GME department.
Vacation time
Residents receive 21 business days (3 weeks scheduled + personal days) of vacation each academic year. Vacations do not roll over to the next year and must be taken within the year it is granted.
Professional liability insurance coverage
Residents are covered by the hospital's professional liability insurance while performing duties within the scope of their medical education program.
Stipend for books
Every resident receives a yearly academic fund for books, memberships, board review preparation, and scholarly activity for local and national conferences a year.
- PGY-1 and PGY-2 yearly fund is $1,600
- PGY-3 yearly fund: $2,600, which includes funding for the ABIM examination
