Conference Objectives

After completing this educational activity, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Recognize medications and substances that can potentially lower the seizure threshold.
  • Understand common drug–drug interactions involving anti-seizure medications (ASMs).
  • Review commonly asked questions when taking care of patients with epilepsy.
  • Review mechanism of action of Factor XI inhibitors.
  • Describe the potential role of Asudexian to reduce the risk of stroke recurrence.
  • Explain the historical use of pregnancy risk categories and why they were replaced.
  • Describe how and when medications may cause fetal or neonatal effects.
  • Recognize pharmacokinetic factors that influence the transfer of medications across the placenta and into breast milk.
  • Discuss trusted resources available to evaluate the safety and efficacy of medications in pregnancy and lactation.
  • Identify basic components of the human immune system that play an important role in how, as clinicians, we use immunosuppressive therapy to promote graft tolerance.
  • Understand the six major categories of transplant pharmacology to include the use, side effects, and potential adverse effects of each medication.
  • Recognize additional medications that may be needed for special populations.
  • Apply the pharmacologic mechanisms of the four guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) pillars to optimize initiation and titration in heart failure.
  • Evaluate clinical trial evidence supporting the four GDMT pillars to guide shared decision-making and improve cardiovascular outcomes in heart failure.
  • Etiology and common causes of hypothyroidism and treatment options.
