The objective of this study was to analyze characteristics, treatment outcomes, and prognostic factors of sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

Locoregional Recurrence-Free Survival Based on Presence of LVSI at Initial Diagnosis of Sarcomatoid SCC (N = 55)

1996-2018

LVSI = lymphovascular space invasion, SCC = squamous cell carcinoma

Overall Survival Based on Presence of LVSI at Initial Diagnosis of Sarcomatoid SCC (N = 55)

1996-2018

LVSI = lymphovascular space invasion, SCC = squamous cell carcinoma

Locoregional Recurrence-Free Survival Based Management of Sarcomatoid SCC With Multimodality Therapyᵃ (N = 55)

1996-2018

ᵃDefined as surgery with adjuvant radiation, chemotherapy, or both; or definitive chemoradiation therapy.

Sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma remains a rare and aggressive disease variant with high recurrence rates and high mortality. High risk features such as lymphovascular space may indicate the need for more aggressive therapy.
