The use of robotic assistance has swept through almost every surgical specialty over the past several decades. Today’s robotic systems, with mechanical “wristed” arms holding surgical instruments with the aid of high-definition and magnified 3D optics — are controlled by the surgeon. This allows for greater flexibility, finer control and better precision than can be achieved using conventional surgical methods.
