Hillcrest Hospital has the latest and most complete array of sophisticated equipment to provide fast, accurate and less invasive diagnosis of a medical problem. Our Radiology department includes:

  • Large nuclear medicine department including PET/CT imaging.
  • Dedicated non-invasive vascular lab.
  • General ultrasound.
  • Angiography.
  • Bone density.
  • CT scan (CT).
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Mammography and digital breast imaging services.
  • Radiography.

*All equipment has been approved by The American College of Radiology (ACR).

With many board-certified radiologists we can provide your doctor with the latest, most accurate and detailed diagnostic information available.

Hillcrest Hospital offers Radiology services at multiple locations including the Hillcrest Medical Building (across from Hospital), Medical Office Building (Atrium of Hospital) and Mentor Hospital. Please check the availability of appointments at any location with the scheduler.

Computerized Tomography (CT)

Computerized tomography, or CT scan is an imaging technique that uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. During a CT scan, multiple X-ray images are taken from different angles and combined by a computer to generate detailed images of internal structures such as organs, bones, and tissues. These images can help diagnose various medical conditions, including injuries, tumors, infections, and other abnormalities. CT scans are commonly used in emergency medicine, oncology, neurology, and other fields to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.

Additional appointments have been added to weekend and evening hours.

Appointments also available at Mentor Hospital.

MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) produces images of internal organs and tissues. The MRI system can create cross-sectional images of the body with a magnet, enhancing the physician's ability to make a diagnosis by viewing the involved body part from multiple perspectives. MRI imaging does not expose patients to radiation. New technologies have allowed the MRI unit to be much larger than older scanners.  This allows patients more room inside the MRI machine and to feel more relaxed in the larger opening (bore) of the MRI unit. All MRI systems at Hillcrest Hospital have been upgraded to the large bore opening.

Additional appointments have been added to weekend and evening hours.

Appointments also available at Mentor Hospital.

Mammography

Mammography is a medical imaging technique specifically designed to screen for and detect breast cancer in its early stages. During a mammogram, low-dose X-rays are used to create detailed images of the breast tissue. These images can reveal abnormal growths or changes in breast tissue that may indicate the presence of cancerous or precancerous cells. Mammography is a vital tool for early detection of breast cancer, as it can identify tumors before they are large enough to be felt during a physical examination.

  • Screening mammograms.
  • Diagnostic mammograms.
  • Stereotactic core biopsies.
  • Needle localizations.

All women ages 35 - 40 should have a baseline mammogram, and mammograms should be performed yearly for women over the age of 40.

Nuclear Medicine

The Nuclear Medicine department offers a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures and treatment for several diseases, including treatments for hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer.

Trained, certified and experienced nuclear medicine technologists prepare you for a pleasant imaging experience. Using very small amounts of radiopharmaceuticals that are either injected into your vein or ingested, images are created using an extremely sensitive radiation detector called a "gamma camera."

PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography) is a medical imaging technique that combines two powerful imaging technologies: PET and CT scans. PET (Positron Emission Tomography) uses a radioactive tracer injected into the body to detect metabolic activity, while CT (Computed Tomography) provides detailed anatomical images. By combining these two modalities, PET/CT scans can provide both functional and structural information about tissues and organs in the body. This enables more accurate diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of various diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders.

PET/CT services are now offered five days per week.

Ultrasound

The Hillcrest Ultrasound Department is equipped with advanced equipment for more accurate diagnosis.

General ultrasound is commonly used for evaluating abdominal organs (such as liver, kidneys, and gallbladder), pelvic organs (such as uterus and ovaries), pregnancy development, thyroid gland, breasts, muscles, tendons, and joints.

Vascular ultrasound focuses specifically on the assessment of blood vessels and blood flow. It can assess both arteries and veins throughout the body, including the carotid arteries in the neck, arteries and veins in the arms and legs, abdominal blood vessels (such as the aorta and mesenteric arteries), and blood vessels in the pelvis.

Sonographers are registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in general ultrasound, OB/Gyn and Vascular Ultrasound (RVT).

Ultrasound services are now offered at the Hillcrest Medical Building (across from the Hospital), Monday through Friday.

Appointments also available at Mentor Hospital.
