Airway Evaluation: At Home Instructions
The following instructions will help you to know what to expect in the days following surgery. Do not hesitate to call if you have questions or concerns.
Activities
- Your child may return to his or her normal activity as soon as able.
Diet
- Unrestricted. Resume normal diet as tolerated.
Pain Control
- Children often complain of a sore throat or sore tongue after surgery.
- If present, acetaminophen (Tylenol®) may be given to relieve any discomfort. Follow the directions on the bottle. Your child may take ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®) if his/her pain is not controlled with Tylenol®. If significant pain or discomfort persists, call your physician.
Fever
- A low-grade fever (less than 101 degrees) following surgery may occur and should be treated with Tylenol®. Follow the directions on the bottle. If the fever persists (more than 2 days) or is greater than 101 degrees, call your physician.
Follow-up
- Please call the office to schedule an appointment to see your physician in the timeframe discussed after surgery.
