The following instructions will help you to know what to expect in the days following surgery. Do not hesitate to call if you have questions or concerns.

Activities

  • Your child may return to his or her normal activity as soon as able.

Diet

  • Unrestricted. Resume normal diet as tolerated.

Pain Control

  • Children often complain of a sore throat or sore tongue after surgery.
  • If present, acetaminophen (Tylenol®) may be given to relieve any discomfort. Follow the directions on the bottle. Your child may take ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®) if his/her pain is not controlled with Tylenol®. If significant pain or discomfort persists, call your physician.

Fever

  • A low-grade fever (less than 101 degrees) following surgery may occur and should be treated with Tylenol®. Follow the directions on the bottle. If the fever persists (more than 2 days) or is greater than 101 degrees, call your physician.

Follow-up

  • Please call the office to schedule an appointment to see your physician in the timeframe discussed after surgery.
