Connecting the Dots to Disrupt Neurological Disease

The time to cure neurological disease is before a diagnosis. Silent but tragic changes begin to happen in the brain years before neurological symptoms are present. But our limited understanding of why some brains get sick and others do not is a barrier to finding a cure.

How we are connecting the dots

Researchers already know that neurological diseases share common traits and patterns. But we’ve only scratched the surface. Cleveland Clinic's Brain Study will change the landscape of neurodegeneration science. By researching at-risk normal individuals over the course of 20 years, we will learn what is happening to the brain and body before a neurological disease is diagnosed. Help us realize a future without neurological disease.

How Does the Cleveland Clinic Brain Study Work?

The goal of Cleveland Clinic's Brain Study is to prevent – and cure – neurological disease by identifying at-risk individuals at the point when changes in the body and brain begin to occur. The study will collect data from up to 200,000 neurologically healthy participants yearly for up to 20 years. That data will help uncover the pre-symptomatic causes of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke and epilepsy, and identify targets for preventing and curing these diseases.

Why Should I Participate?

Cleveland Clinic's Brain Study will revolutionize neurodegenerative medicine by tapping into our extensive international network of clinical and research teams. Participants will be enrolled in a first-of-its-kind study that will lead to future breakthroughs to help identify, prevent and treat neurological disease. Your involvement in this long-term study will help advance the future of neurological disease research in the coming years.

Who Is Eligible To Participate?

Adults age 50+ with no known neurological disorder or neurologically healthy adults age 20+ who have a first degree relative (i.e., parent or sibling) diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

What Is Required of Participants?

Cleveland Clinic Brain Study participants will undergo serial assessments in Cleveland, Ohio at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. Assessments may include:

Financial stipends will be awarded to participants as various requirements of the study are completed.
