Annual Safety & Security Report

The Cleveland Clinic School of Diagnostic Imaging has a safety screening protocol for students who have potential access to the magnetic resonance environment. This ensures that students are appropriately screened for magnetic wave and radiofrequency hazards.

Prior to starting the clinical experience, students are taught MR safety practices. They view an MRI training video given by MRI expert Frank Shellock, PhD. The students then complete an MR screening form that is reviewed by the MRI program coordinator. If there are any questions or concerns regarding student safety around potential dangers of implants or foreign bodies, the program medical advisor will review their case and determine their ability to safely participate in the MR environment.
