Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology Residency Program at South Pointe Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic hospital.
South Pointe is a 173-registered bed acute care, community teaching hospital serving the healthcare needs of Cleveland's southeast suburbs since 1957. South Pointe Hospital features a state-of-the art surgery center with a 24 bed critical care unit. South Pointe Hospital is a regional branch of the Cleveland Clinic Health System and our affiliations with Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and Akron Children's Hospital provide Resident exposure to cardiac anesthesia, critical care, and pediatric anesthesia in all aspects. By combining the talents of highly qualified physicians, nurses and staff, South Pointe Hospital delivers a patient-centered model of care which promotes the healing of the mind, body and spirit.
The residency program began in 1962 under the auspices of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and has accreditation by the AOA until 2020. In 2016, the Program was granted ACGME initial accreditation, and is approved for twelve categorical slots. Our program enjoys a close-knit community atmosphere with the abundance of resources that the Cleveland Clinic Health System provides.
The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to providing a comprehensive clinical and educational experience. The program strives to prepare Residents to deliver the best possible patient care in both the surgical suites and the critical care areas. Our faculty is well versed in the latest developments in medicine and treatment modalities. Due to our commitment to providing the best care, we have adopted the model of teaching that incorporates the ACGME specific core competencies. This ensures the Resident are established as a well-rounded, caring, compassionate physicians with an objective to provide good quality care and to learn effective physician-patient interaction.
Clinical components of training are located mainly at South Pointe Hospital with a few rotations offered offsite. The obstetric anesthesia rotation is offered at Hillcrest Hospital, pediatrics at Akron’s Children Hospital, Fairview Hospital for neuro-anesthesia, while CCF Main Campus provides Residents exposure to cardiac and surgical intensive care experiences.
The strongest resource of our program is the dedicated faculty who harbor a deep commitment to resident and student education. Being a small program we are able to provide a great deal of personal attention to all our residents. South Pointe Hospital provides residents and medical students with access to a full service medical library, skills lab and multiple conference rooms for education, meetings and individual study. The Hospital’s designation as the training site for Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine recognizes South Pointe Hospital’s excellence in medical education.
