At Cleveland Clinic, we have a longstanding commitment to the success of our team. Our reputation for nursing excellence was created through endless opportunities and ongoing innovation. We provide nurses with multiple options to customize and advance their careers within a variety of clinical specialties in urban and suburban settings throughout Cleveland Clinic health system. With depth and breadth of job placement, continuing education programs and extensive benefits, Cleveland Clinic remains a premier nursing destination.

Below are opportunities for continuing education.

Professional Nursing Certification Program

Certification is the formal process by which a certifying agency validates a nurse's knowledge, skills, and abilities in a defined role and clinical area of practice, based on predetermined standards. Nurses achieve certification credentials through specialized education, experience in a specialty area, and a qualifying exam. Certification is a profession's official recognition of achievement, expertise, and clinical judgment. It is a mark of excellence that requires continued learning and skill development to maintain.

Cleveland Clinic supports the advancement of nurses in their profession by encouraging all nurses to reach their potential in their specialty. The certification program offers the opportunity for nurses to become certified in their specialty without having to pay costs upfront for specific certifications. Cleveland Clinic offers a variety of resources, including examination preparation materials, for nurses that strive to achieve certification.

Continuing Education

Continuing Education

Cleveland Clinic is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialling Center (ANCC) as a provider of contact hours for continuing education programs. Contact hour workshops are offered each year, covering a variety of topics that relate to professional nursing practice. Additional educational opportunities and resources available include digital platforms for self-paced learning, computer-assisted instruction, and other online learning tools.

Cleveland Clinic supports the concept of lifelong learning and encourages employees to seek advanced education through academic programs.

Nurses are encouraged to participate in interprofessional decision-making groups at the organizational level to support goals, promote autonomous nursing practice, improve healthcare services, and enhance professional development.

To further enhance professional growth and collaboration, active membership in professional nursing organizations is also encouraged.

Professional Ladder

Professional Ladder

The Professional Ladder is designed to promote and recognize excellence in practice, foster professional growth and development, facilitate career advancement, and support caregiver recognition and retention. The Professional Ladder aligns with the Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence's Professional Practice Model.  Cleveland Clinic nursing caregivers have the opportunity to participate in and advance to the next level on the Professional Ladder by completing required activities within that level and by demonstrating innovation through accomplishments.
