A New Home for Neurological Care
"This building is not just a structure but rather is wholly designed with people in mind — patients with neurological diseases, their loved ones, and the clinicians and researchers caring for them." — André Machado, MD, PhD
As our population lives longer and longer, there’s a greater chance neurological conditions will only increase. Cleveland Clinic has taken a massive step forward in the future of neurological care and research.
We’ve committed 1 million square feet of space to house our future neurological home base — the largest building at our Main Campus. We’ll dedicate this new facility to diagnosing, treating and researching conditions of the brain, nervous system and spine. An advanced healthcare center, this building will bring our neurological providers and services under one roof, including:
- Inpatient and outpatient services
- Advanced imaging
- Surgery and other interventional treatments
- Clinical research
We have one goal — delivering the best neurological care of today and to keep moving forward with new tools and technologies for tomorrow. We’ve designed this building to stay in step with growing demand and changing technology — focusing on the digital world, distance health, discovery and patient experience with features like:
- Open spaces, natural light and intuitive wayfinding: Our modern design will provide a better, more efficient experience for our patients and their caregivers.
- Integrated technology: We’ll use consent-based, wearable sensors to capture participating patients’ neurological performance information. This will help our team focus more on personalized treatment than initial assessment.
- Digital connectivity for distance health consultations: This new building will allow us to connect our patients with Cleveland Clinic sites across the nation and the world, including the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas and Cleveland Clinic hospitals in Florida, London and Abu Dhabi.
- Research spaces: Our healthcare providers, scientists and engineers from Cleveland Clinic and other organizations will work together to discover the tests and treatments of the future. This will allow us to cement a true connection between medical care and research.
- Flexible, modular layouts: Featuring easily modifiable spaces and dual-purpose exam rooms with embedded office nooks for physicians, our new building will be able to grow and change as needed for years to come.
How did these features come to life? Our providers — including doctors, nurses and therapists — shared valuable input with us during the design process. Our nurses played a crucial role in balancing patient privacy with safety and supervision needs.
Construction is well underway with the building slated to open in late 2026.
"Curing brain diseases in our lifetimes is our moonshot. This new Neurological Institute building is key to our strategy of advancing research and clinical practice to reach that goal." — Imad Najm, MD
