What led you to choose this career?
I was led to this career after a sudden layoff from my previous job. I had previously considered a career in the medical field and decided this was the time to pursue my options. The search led me to explore several different programs that would allow me to expand my skillset by obtaining additional education. Cuyahoga Community College offered several degrees and certifications in the medical field, and I immediately enrolled in the sterile processing distribution program. Completion of this program allowed me to advance my career.
What interested you in working for Cleveland Clinic?
Cleveland Clinic is one of the best hospitals in the world and I knew I wanted to become part of their team.
What physical and/or soft skills do you need to succeed in this career?
To be successful in this career, you will need good verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work both independently and within a team, and most importantly, a passion for keeping patients safe.
What has been your most gratifying experience in this profession?
My most gratifying experience in this profession is repeated every time instruments that I have prepared are utilized in surgery. It gives me such a rewarding feeling to know my indirect patient care role contributed to a successful surgery and the sterile processing technique was done with love and care.
