Adult Epilepsy: Seizure Severity
Seizure Severity in Medically Treated Adult Epilepsy Patients (N = 3206)
2007 – 2022
The effect of medical treatment on seizure severity was assessed using the Liverpool Seizure Severity Scale (LSSS), a validated patient-completed questionnaire developed to quantify seizure severity. Of the 3206 patients seen from 2007 through 2022, 33.5% improved, 43.5% remained stable, and 23% had a worsening in seizure severity. Clinically meaningful change was defined as a total point change of ≥ 5.¹
Seizure Severity in Surgically Treated Adult Epilepsy Patients (N = 605)
2007 – 2022
Of the 605 surgical patients seen from 2007 through 2022, 70.7% improved, 17.5% remained stable, and 11.7% had a worsening in seizure severity from pre- to post-surgery. Clinically meaningful change was defined as a total point change of ≥ 5.¹
