About the Program
The PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program at Lutheran Hospital is a one-year specialized program with rotations in various psychiatry settings. Residents will build upon their Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop into pharmacist practitioners with specialized psychiatric knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The resident will complete a research project, manuscript, and present the results locally and/or nationally. The resident will also participate in the residency research curriculum that takes place throughout the residency year. The resident has opportunities for teaching including didactic lectures for psychiatry residents, staff in-services, and pharmacy student and resident preceptorship. Optional experiences include a Teaching Certificate Program, Leadership Curriculum and Distinguished Trainee Educator Program.

Staffing requirement
The resident will complete twenty-four 8-hour shifts, scheduled depending on department need.Presentations
The resident will complete formal presentations on a variety of pharmacy topics to pharmacy staff, adult psychiatry residents, and other health care professionals at Lutheran Hospital. Informal topic discussions and in-services to nursing staff, medical students, and pharmacy students will be conducted by the resident. Residents will prepare and present at least one medication use evaluation for either local or enterprise-wide Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees.
The optional longitudinal teaching certificate program provides opportunities for presenting large didactic lectures to pharmacy students and facilitating small groups discussions at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
Meetings and conferences
The resident will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of local and health-system level pharmacy department and interdisciplinary committees. Residency project results will be presented in poster format at a selected meeting. Additional opportunities for conference participation may be encouraged depending on the residency project topic and rate of resident progress.
Study completion
The resident will complete a longitudinal research project to be written in the form of a publishable manuscript. Project results may be presented to the pharmacy department and other health care professionals at Lutheran Hospital as appropriate. Participation in the Cleveland Clinic Residency Research Lecture Series provides additional assistance with research methods and biostatistics.

Application
Interested applicants must be PharmD graduates of an accredited college of pharmacy, graduates of an accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency, be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the State of Ohio, and submit the standard application materials through Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) (i.e. Letter of Intent, CV, the 3 standard reference forms in PhORCAS, official college transcripts).
A minimum of one (two is preferred) of your three references should come from a preceptor who you have worked with in a clinical setting, related to a PGY-1 rotation. The clinical preceptor should be able to comment on your scope of responsibility, total patient load, level of autonomy, clinical abilities, and organizational and time management skills. All reference writers should use the standard PhORCAS template to submit their candidate recommendation and should:

- Evaluate a minimum of 7 of the 13 listed candidate characteristics
- Provide detailed comments for any characteristics rated “room for improvement” or “consistently fails to meet expectations” or “consistently exceeds expectations”
A separate attached recommendation letter is optional and may be submitted if program-specific or characteristic-specific comments are necessary.

Please Note:
- Residency applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States. Cleveland Clinic Pharmacy does not sponsor applicants for work Visas.
- Appointments of applicants to residency positions may be contingent upon the applicants satisfying certain eligibility requirements [e.g., graduating from an accredited college of pharmacy, completing a PGY1 residency, obtaining pharmacist license in Ohio within 90 days of start date, and successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen, including testing for cotinine].
- Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate OPT (Optional Practical Training) Visas for the Cleveland Clinic Pharmacy Residency Program as the program extends beyond 12 months.
- The Cleveland Clinic Pharmacy Residency Program does not meet the qualifications of an OPT STEM employer because Cleveland Clinic is not enrolled in E-Verify.
