Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy can truly be a life-saver: removing one polyp at the time of a screening colonoscopy can reduce risk of death from colon cancer by 53 percent! Since the polyp detection rate is significant by age 45 and increases thereafter, those without a family history of colon cancer or certain kinds of polyps should get their first colonoscopy at age 45. Those with a family history may need to start screening at age 40 or even earlier.
