The Department of Benign Gynecologic Surgery is committed to providing patients with innovative and personalized surgical care for a wide range of benign gynecologic conditions. A hysterectomy may be performed for the following indications – severe abnormal uterine bleeding, painful menses, symptomatic fibroid uterus, endometriosis and adenomyosis. When deemed necessary, Cleveland Clinic surgeons perform a majority of hysterectomies utilizing a minimally invasive approach.

Cleveland Clinic is a high-volume and referral tertiary care center where many patients with complex pathologies and co-morbidities are seen. The indications to bring a patient back to surgery (re-operation) within 48 hours of the initial surgery include severe post-operative bleeding and suspected visceral (bladder or bowel) injury.
