Biography

About Mohamed Kanj, MD

Mohamed Kanj, MD is the Associate Director of Electrophysiology Laboratories at the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Kanj has special expertise and interest in the ablation of complex arrhythmia, including atrial fibrillation and endocardial /epicardial ventricular tachycardia, and in lead extraction. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. His office is located on the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Kanj did his undergraduate studies at the American University of Beirut earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with Distinction. He received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut School of Medicine where he graduated with Deans Honor and was enrolled in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He received medical training at the Michigan State University where he served as the Chief Medical Resident, the University of Toledo and the Cleveland Clinic where he was the Chief Electrophysiology Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic.

He has won many awards including The Rafiq Harriri and The Makassed awards for outstanding achievements, The Smokler’s and The Outstanding Resident teaching awards for exceptional skills in contributing to the teaching of medical students as well as his fellow residents. During his medical residency training, he won the Outstanding Junior and Senior Resident Awards and he got the Heart Rhythm Society Fellowship Grant during his cardiac electrophysiology training.

Dr Kanj is involved in numerous clinical multi-center trials to study medical applications for catheter ablation, pacemakers and defibrillators. He has authored or co-authored many articles in scientific journals and many chapters in medical books. He continues writing in his areas of interest.

Currently Dr. Kanj holds memberships in the American College of Cardiology, The Heart Rhythm Society, and the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society.

On his spare times, he enjoys computer programming, travelling and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Kanj spent 15 minutes with me going over everything and reassuring me. With all the hundreds of patients he sees, he still remembers me from 8 years ago when he did my procedure. He is kind, brilliant and a life saver. A true blessing to me!

Dr Kanj is just wonderful, he is absolutely the best, enjoys seeing me, makes me feel very comfortable, goes above and beyond the call of duty...I travel 10 hours to see him, when I could travel 10 minutes at home to see a doctor... He is worth every hour of travel....he is fantastic....I see him once a year for a checkup....

Dr. Kanj is extremely thorough and knowledge. He read all my reports and discussed my condition with exacting language that I was able to comprehend. Recommendations and a change of medication was made. I really appreciate his kindness and understanding of my condition.
