About Atul C. Mehta, MD

Atul C. Mehta, M.B., B.S., specialty interests are the treatment of lung cancer, diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, lung transplantation, interstitial lung diseases and pulmonary hypertension. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. Dr. Mehta's research interests are therapeutic bronchoscopy, lung transplantation and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

He was named in the 2000-2001 Top Doctors in America; 1999-2000 edition of Best Doctors in America; Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, 1997; Best Doctors in America- Midwest Region, 1996-1997; and International Who's Who, 1996-1997.

In 1993 he was awarded the Distinguished Physicians of the Year by the Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio and in 1992, the Cleveland Clinic's Bruce Hubbard Steward Award for his ability to combine sensitivity and compassion with knowledge and skill in the practice of medicine.

Dr. Mehta was the founder and president of the American Association for Bronchology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery. He also is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, International Bronchoesophagological Society, International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation and World Association for Bronchology.

He serves on the editorial boards for several professional journals including the Journal of Bronchology, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine. He is a reviewer for CHEST, Cancer, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Mehta received his medical degree from Municipal Medical College, Gujarat University in India. Following his internship and residency training in India, he completed a general practice residency at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pa., and an internal medicine residency at Hahnamann Medical College Affiliate Hospitals in Trenton, N.J., and Easton, Pa. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease at Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Mehta keeps it real explains procedures and tells me I need to step up my efforts to gain the weight, build my muscles up, and to be able to walk 400 feet. Very pleased with the time and care Doctor Mehta has provided for me he's addressed concerns about me being under weight and placed me in Pulmonary Rehabilitation to get me stronger before my double lung transplant. He's also weening me off medications I don't need to be taking anymore. He is a wonderful caring doctor I would recommend to anyone who needs his services.
