Overview

Our service expertise includes diagnosing odontogenic cysts and tumors, benign-fibro-osseous lesions, epithelial dysplasias, direct immunofluorescent studies, and challenging oral cavity lesions and growths. We also receive direct referrals from clinical offices performing biopsies.

As one of the only hospital-based Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology groups in the United States that is fully integrated into an academic pathology department, our service combines deep subspecialty expertise in oral & maxillofacial pathology with access to an extensive menu of immunohistochemical stains and a specially designed next-generation sequencing panel for confirmation of rare translocation-associated tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Our pathologists also practice the full spectrum of head and neck pathology, including salivary, sinonasal, thyroid and parathyroid pathology. Our unique combination of dental and medical backgrounds results in a multidisciplinary approach that is leveraged to provide expert opinions on some of the most difficult cases in oral & maxillofacial pathology.

Our Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists are vital participants at multidisciplinary tumor conferences for head, neck and thyroid cancer patients. Our staff actively engages in research, including collaboration with clinician-scientists to provide pathology support for clinical trials and correlative studies. Many of our staff members have subspecialty training and play active roles in national societies, committees and educational conferences.
