How to Prepare for Cardiac Catheterization

If you need to reschedule your catheterization, call 216.444.6682 to cancel, then call 216.444.6697 to make a new appointment.

Please read through this information to help you prepare for your cardiac catheterization. If you have any questions, write them down and share them with the person who calls you. We will go over the information on this sheet with you. Please have this sheet and a pen to write notes and complete the back of the sheet.

Please make sure you have a responsible person to drive you home after your procedure. If you do not have a driver, your procedure will be cancelled.

What time should I come to the hospital?

We will call you between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. the day before your procedure (may be earlier on Sunday). Please make sure you have your cell phone on and are near your phone. If you do not get a call by 5 p.m., please call 216.445.6727 or 800.223.2273, ext. 56727.

Your arrival time is not your procedure time. Your healthcare team needs time to get you ready for your procedure. We will do everything possible to keep you from waiting too long, but we sometimes have emergency procedures that can cause delays. Thank you for understanding.

What should I bring to the hospital?

Please bring anything you may need for an overnight stay, but do not bring them in with you. A friend of family member can bring them in if you need them. Do not bring valuables or jewelry.

Where do I park?

You can park in the garage at E. 93rd Street, between Chester Ave. and Euclid Ave. Or, you can use the valet in front of the J Building/Main entrance. We can validate your parking ticket on the day of your procedure.

Where do I check in?

We will tell you your arrival desk when we call you the day before your procedure.

What if I need special assistance or help finding my way?

Cleveland Clinic’s Red Coat staff are available to help you with a wheelchair, directions and other things you may need. You can recognize them by their red blazers. You can also ask any Cleveland Clinic employee wearing a badge to help you.

Download and print this PDF so you’re ready to fill in the information when we call you the day before your procedure.
