Overview
Vascular lesions include vascular birthmarks, hemangiomas, broken blood vessels/capillaries, spider veins, rosacea, facial redness, certain scars and more. The Vbeam® Perfecta (available at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Avon – Richard E. Jacobs Family Health Center and Twinsburg Family Health Center) is a pulsed dye laser that works by selectively heating and destroying blood vessels without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Why choose us?
When considering a vascular lesion procedure, choose a surgeon with significant experience performing the procedure. Friends, family members or an internist or primary care doctor are often helpful in suggesting the best surgeon.
For the best results, choose a cosmetic surgeon who’s affiliated with a major medical center, such as Cleveland Clinic. Make sure to ask your cosmetic surgeon about their credentials, training and how many procedures they’ve performed.

How to Prepare
Vascular lesion laser treatment is a good option if you:
- Are physically healthy.
- Have a positive outlook and specific, realistic goals in mind for improving your appearance.
The best way to determine if you’re a candidate for laser treatment is through a consultation with an expert at Cleveland Clinic Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Center.
How do I prepare for laser treatment?
Preparation for laser treatment at Cleveland Clinic Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Center includes:
- Avoiding sunbathing, tanning beds and any chemical peels two weeks before the procedure.
- Avoiding aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements due to increased risk of bruising.
- Taking photographs of treated areas before and after your procedure to evaluate improvement.
What to Expect
Laser treatment at Cleveland Clinic Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Center is generally performed in an outpatient setting, so you’ll go home the same day. Depending on lesion size and location, numbing cream may be applied before treatment to help minimize discomfort. Treatment time may range from several minutes to 30 minutes depending on the treatment surface area.
Results
Individual results vary per patient, and you may need multiple treatments for best results.
What is involved in recovery?
Your recovery from laser treatment will vary depending on the type of vascular lesion. After treatment with a Vbeam laser, treated areas are typically red and swollen for several days. Treatment of vascular birthmarks and hemangiomas may result in bruising that lasts anywhere from several days to two weeks.
