Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a common condition in newborn males appearing in 1 in 250 to 1 in 300 newborns. It is a congenital abnormality in which the urethra (the channel that carries urine) fails to close properly creating an opening below the head of the penis. The condition is usually surgically corrected before the child is 18 months old. The goal of this highly successful surgery is to create a penis that is normal in both appearance and function.
