The Department of General Internal Medicine includes 43 physicians who carry out a variety of clinical responsibilities which include out-patient primary care delivered in three geographic sites, out-of-town medical evaluations and second opinion medical consultations, Geriatric Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Executive Health, Women's Health, Preoperative Assessment and Consultation, Subacute Services, and hospital in-patient care and consultations.
At the same time, education of medical students, internal medicine residents, and fellows is carried out in many of these activities.

- 19 staff in the Department have achieved FACP designation (Fellowship in the American College of Physicians).
- Major editorial contributions to the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Geriatrics Association, Hospitalist, and Annals of Internal Medicine.
- Completion of the second edition of the text Clinical Preventive Medicine (co-edited by Dr. Lang with chapters provided by several members of the Department).
- Oversight and management of Nurse-on-Call: Dr. Seballos.
- Management of Anti-coagulation Clinic: Dr. Jaffer.
- Management of administrative aspects of the Employee Health Plan: Dr. Lowenthal.
- Recognized national leader in the fields of Geriatric Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Women's Health, and Executive Health.
- Inclusion in top 10 ranking of U.S. News and World Report in Geriatric Medicine.
- Leadership in ACP-ASIM - Dr. Mayer as Vice President of the State of Ohio Chapter and member of the National Health and Public Policy Committee.
