About Maria Mountis, DO

Dr. Maria Mountis is Staff in the Division of Cardiology, Section of Heart Failure and Transplantation.  She was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic in 2008.   She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant  by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is also certified in adult echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.

In addition to office visits, Dr. Mountis also offers scheduled pre-visits and  follow up virtual visits to select patients, through the Cleveland Clinic Express Care ® Online app. This platform allows patients to see their physician live, using their smartphone, tablet or computer.

Specialty Interests:  Diagnosis and treatment of advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical assist devices, pulmonary hypertension, and the cardiac care of women.

Education and Training: Dr. Mountis is a Pennsylvania native, graduating with a B.S. degree in Biology from Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA. She received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network in Allentown, PA. This was followed by her fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, where she was also appointed Chief Cardiovascular Fellow. She continued her training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with a fellowship dedicated to the care of patients with Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant.

Dr. Mountis was very good about listening to my concerns and also giving me recommendations to take back to my regular cardiologist. She made recommendations about both my food consumption as well as recommendations of medication changes to pass along to my regular cardiologist.

When talking with Dr. Mountis she asked about my expectations at the Cleveland Clinic. I mentioned to her about the my research into the brachytherapy that is performed there. She made me an appointment with an interventional cardiologist for that every day! I could not have been more happy about my trip to the Cleveland Clinic. The motto that the patient is number 1 is so, so evident in everyone we encountered.

The nursing staff of Dr. Mountis is just wonderful. It feels like I'm coming to see friends. It's very tough knowing you have a life threatening heart condition, but coming here was the best thing I could've done. I feel I am listened to and all of my concerns are respected and answered.
