About David Gurd, MD

David P. Gurd, MD is the Head of Pediatric Spinal DeformitySurgery and the Medical Director for Supply Chain Management at Cleveland Clinic.  He completed his undergraduate studies atMiami University (Ohio), received his medical degree from The Ohio StateUniversity, completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at ClevelandClinic and subspecialty fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedics at theTexas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas.  Dr. Gurdjoined the staff at Cleveland Clinic in 2007.

Dr. Gurd’s main interests include scoliosis and spinedeformity to include congenital conditions, infantile scoliosis, kyphosis andspondylolisthesis.  He also enjoys working with pediatric trauma,lower-extremity deformity and children’s hip conditions including hipdysplasia.  He has specialized training in the fields of osteotomy for significantspine deformity and preservation of the hip joint in adolescents.

The majority of Dr. Gurd’s practice is focused on patientcare; however, he is also very active with Cleveland Clinic’s Supply ChainManagement and assessing the newest innovations in surgical care.  Dr.Gurd is currently engaged in research being conducted to improve recovery afterscoliosis surgery to increase patient mobility, function, and paincontrol.  In addition, he is working on a new modality to improve the easeof pedicle screw placement for the surgeon and enhance patient safety whenundergoing spine surgery.

We were able to schedule an appointment the same day for Josh to have Orthopaedic surgery evaluation. The woman who helped schedule the appointment was very helpful and kind. Dr Gurd has a great bedside manner he and his nurse really took time and explained the recovery plan to Josh making sure he was on board and understood. Plus Josh really enjoyed talking about football with him! I would highly recommend Dr. Gurd to anyone seeking a orthopaedic surgeon!

We just love Dr Gurd!! He's so fun and my son loves him!! He gets down on his level and explains everything to everyone in the room. His bedside manner should be taught at medical schools everywhere! He's a gem for CCF.

Dr. Gurd had a great bedside manner with my 2yr old. Not all doctors do well with pediatrics. His whole staff was great, providing lots of stickers to get my daughter through the casting process. They came and discussed follow up while we were getting the cast done which helped us get through the appointment quickly.
