Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 1/15/2022, Dr. Gilligan has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. I have had several virtual calls with Dr. Gilligan. What I have done the last couple of times is to come to the call with an agenda that I include specific issues to discuss an questions to ask. Dr. Gilligan is very comfortable with doing this - we seem to get to the important issues quicker and he answers all of my questions.

I drove two and a half hours from Pittsburgh for this appointment because my oncologist in Pittsburgh Express no concern for my quality of life or for me as a person or for involving me in decisions about my care. If I could give doctor Gilligan a score higher than five, I would. After a very difficult two years struggling with prostate cancer, I finally found a doctor who respect me as a partner in my own care. And when he had to tell me difficult information, he could not have been more humble and gentle and caring. Thank you.

I can't say enough how great I feel knowing that Dr. Gillian is my care provider. His compassion and overall respect he gives is second to none. He generally cares and spent the time to get to know me. Not only is he my oncologist, he's a friend!!

Reviewed on Aug 11, 2021

I had an excellent visit with Dr. Gilligan as he explained everything in detail to me. Dr. Gilligan also went over the results of my Catscan very thoroughly.

Reviewed on Aug 11, 2021

Though very professional, open and clear, there is a sense of distance with the provider, or maybe a sense of unspoken "no guarantees" that comes across. Hearing "your scan shows you are cancer free, but you never know what the future holds" would come across warmer than your scan shows "you're stable". But this is not really a complaint. Dr. Gilligan is terrific! Waiting for the results of a cancer follow up scan makes for a very high anxiety day. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. It is reassuring, even with bad news, when you feel your medical team is "in there with you."
