About Marcelo Gomes, MD

Marcelo P. Villa-Forte Gomes, MD, in a Staff Member in the Section of Vascular Medicine, the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, at the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 2003. He is board-certified in internal medicine and vascular medicine. His specialty interests include deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, hypercoagulable states, thrombophilia, peripheral arterial disease and anticoagulant therapy.

A native of Brazil, Dr. Gomes received his medical degree from the Rio de Janeiro State University. He completed residencies in internal medicine both in Rio de Janeiro and at Cleveland Clinic. Next, he completed a fellowship in vascular medicine and advanced fellowship in clinical thrombosis.

Dr. Gomes has a wide range of research and treatment interests, including blood clotting disorders, carotid artery disease, claudication, deep venous thrombosis, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, hypercoagulable states, peripheral arterial disease, peripheral vascular disease, pulmonary embolism and thrombophilia.

Dr. Gomes is a Fellow of the Society for Vascular Medicine, as well as member of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, American Heart Association, American College of Physicians, and Brazilian Society of Cardiology. He has been a speaker at medical conferences and symposia both in Brazil and the United States. His research articles have been published in major scientific journals and he has contributed chapters for textbooks.

I could not say enough AMAZING things about Dr Gomes. I have never had such a wonderful experience with a health care provider. It felt like the Disney of hospital/ doctor experiences. Dr. Gomes even walked me to the lobby door, I was blown away by that. He took the time to truly listen, he is the first provider I have encountered who was knowledgeable on my condition and in answering my questions- I can't thank him and the Cleveland Clinic enough.

The intern advised that the doctor was a little behind. The wait time was not unreasonable. The doctor did not rush my visit, gave clinical observations and teaching to the intern, and even escorted me out to the reception area. Dr. Gomes and Intern Mannan were very courteous and professional. I would recommend them highly.
