Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

This aspect of the care could not have been better. As a busy, practicing physician, I am well aware of the care model we strive for and this experience has surely met it.

Dr. Lorenz has been the best doctor I have seen at the Clinic. He is always respectful and patient with me and my questions. It is comforting to talk with a professional who has the knowledge to make the best decisions in my care and will take the time to explain his thoughts behind those decisions. He is up-front and honest with his plans for my care. I have seen other professionals at the clinic who I felt were less than upfront with my treatment plan and even with some of my test results, without prodding on my part. I have always felt that Dr. Lorenz shared all the information he had on me and this built trust and lessened my anxiety of what might be happening. He is always willing to refer me to other professionals when my concerns are not within his area of expertise. I couldn't ask for a better person with whom to entrust regular monitoring of my condition.

such a good team you have! I'd like to visit Mayo just to understand what type of standards count as #1. bc i consider the clinic as #1 of course, as i keep seeking your surgeons out for crazy and crazier operations. Operations are always accomplished perfectly and i'm so very happy to still be around. This round was not a big deal surgery but Dr. Lorenz and his team fit me into his very busy summer schedule because he had previously worked in the same (physical) area last summer, to successfully reinnervate my nerve to return the full force of my voice back. I would've waited till whenever he was available in order to ensure another successful surgery but i didn't even have to do that. The doc and his team made it a priority to see me. As you well know, Dr. Lorenz is a gifted surgeon but it's comforting to be in his care because he's entirely confident in his team, his plan, and also happens to be an unnervingly funny fellow.
