Dr. Surendra P. Khera is a distinguished medical professional currently serving as the Vice-Chief of Primary Care and President of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) at Cleveland Clinic Florida Integrated Health (CCFIH). With a robust background in internal medicine, Dr. Khera has dedicated his career to advancing patient care, quality, safety and population health.
Dr. Khera’s previous endeavors include Chair of Medicine and Chief Population Health Officer at RWJ Barnabas Health at Jersey City, New Jersey and Vice President of Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center /Trinity Health New England in Hartford Connecticut. In this capacity, Dr. Khera led system through multiple Leapfrog A ratings in Healthcare Quality and established the system as one of the leaders in Quality, Safety and Patient Experience within the state of Connecticut.
Dr. Khera pioneered innovative program building focused on supporting academic education and high-value patient care for which he was one of the few clinician educators promoted at UCONN for building a program that supported clinical education. Dr. Khera has pioneered patient-centered models of care including Clinical Access Team (CAT) model, LETS CONNECT model for care transformation training and Complexity Driven Localization of Care, which was accepted by the Advisory Board as one of their recommended inpatient models of care.
As a clinician educator, Dr. Khera was Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and served as Co-Director of the Residency Leadership Council on Quality and Safety. Dr. Khera has received multiple teaching awards including Teacher of the Year Award from UCONN Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Khera served as Vice-Chair of the Physician Executive Council and a member of the Quality Committee of the Board and the Committee on Population Health at the Connecticut Hospital Association. As a clinician educator in Population health, Dr. Khera has written and published a novel 10-module curriculum for training graduate medical trainees in population health. Additionally, Dr. Khera has served as Clinician Educator at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center prior to starting his role in Connecticut.
At Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Dr. Khera is responsible for defining, developing, and managing the clinical operations and growth of all patient care activities within the Population Health Institute. His commitment to quality care and patient experience is evident in his leadership and the initiatives he has implemented to improve patient access and outcomes.
Dr. Khera is known for his collaborative approach and dedication to innovation in healthcare. He continues to contribute to the field through his involvement in various projects and his role in shaping the future of primary care and population health in Florida.
Dr. Khera holds a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Quality and Safety and a Graduate Certificate in Population Health from Jefferson School of Population Health in Philadelphia, PA. He also holds a Certificate in Patient Safety from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, a Certificate in Patient Experience Leadership from the Beryl Institute in Southlake, TX, and a Certificate in Buddhist Studies from Harvard University online education.
Dr. Khera went to Medical School in India and after completing his post-graduate training in UK completed his residency and Chief Residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport.
