Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 12/1/2019, Dr. Achkar has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. The doctor was very thorough in discussing medical problems. He listened to my concerns and gave me answers and explanations I could understand! I was very pleased with the concern and medical knowledge of both doctors --especially Dr. Achkar. I am so glad one of my friends suggested I see Dr. Achkar for my medical condition--Crohn's.

Dr. Achkar is a excellent doctor but it's hard to get appointments with him because he is so good but I don't mind the wait. He explains everything so you understand and he is very pleasant in the office and the bedside. He is the type of doctor that makes the clinic an excellent place to obtain care.

He is an amazing doctor. I drive from NY just to see him. I like how much time he takes to listen to my questions and go over side effects of medicine. He is willing to go over multiple medicine options and make sure that I feel comfortable taking the medicine. I feel very comfortable with this doctor and I am glad that he sees me.

Dr. Ashkar is a specialist who takes time to listen about serious medical conditions. I expect to wait because he is in demand and is a great doctor. There are times other patients need more time because of their health condition. I have never felt that my doctor was intentionally ignoring me at my expense. If people with a serious medical condition can't understand that then, they shouldn't be seeing world class doctors at a world class facility.

Doctor was very thorough, but talked very quickly and jump around in the conversation. This was due to him reading my chart at the same time we were talking.
