Biography

About Lauren Sankary, JD

Lauren R. Sankary, JD, is currently the Associate Director of the Neuroethics Program, which conducts cutting-edge scholarly and empirical neuroethics research and develops and promulgates best ethical practices in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. She is also staff in the Neurological Institute and a member of the Center for Bioethics.

Lauren Sankary joined the professional staff in the Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic in January of 2020. She received a B.A. in Rhetoric from University of California, Berkeley in 2012. Subsequently, she received a J.D. with a concentration in Health Law from and a Master of Arts in Case Western Reserve University. Lauren Sankary completed a two and a half year NIH BRAIN Initiative-funded neuroethics fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. Lauren Sankary's primary research interests focus on ethical issues raised by implanted neural devices and neurosurgical interventions. She works closely with the Center for Neurological Restoration and Epilepsy Center. She teaches graduate-level courses at Columbia University and Case Western Reserve University and lectures nationally and internationally on a range of issues that include neuroethics, research ethics, empirical bioethics and clinical ethics consultation.

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit.
