Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 4/7/2020, Dr. Afshani has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. I had a phone consultation with Dr. Mansour Afshani. He was very gracious, thorough and easy to understand. I am in the process of gathering more information to send the Doctor. I would encourage other patients to use phone consults for example in Teledoc. Cleveland Clinic Weston is in a class of it's own. I have always been extrely pleased with the service and expertise of the medical staff. Thank you for your excellence!

Physician was very uninterested in me as a person. He asked no questions, did not speak to me other than to say he did not know why I needed to see neurologist. He never looked at me and he asked no questions about my symptoms. I attempted to speak to him about my symptom, but he would not engage. He was in the office no more than 10 minutes. We drove 4 hours there and 4 hours back for a 10 minute visit.

Reviewed on Dec 9, 2019

Dr. Mansour Afshani was a delight to work with during my visit. He listened carefully and did a very thorough exam. He was polite and professional and made me feel at ease that he knew what the possibility of diagnosis could be; I will be returning to Cleveland Clinic Weston tomorrow for testing and I have full confidence with Dr. Afshani as my doctor.

Reviewed on Oct 28, 2019

The wait was over 45 minutes but Dr. Afshani very clearly explained everything in a way no other of the 4 neurologists we have ever seen have explained. He was patient, clear, and concise.

This was possibly the worst experience we have ever encountered with a physician over the past six years in dealing with our daughter's illness. This doctor has horrible bedside manner, is insensitive and lacks any empathy whatsoever. He literally spent eight minutes with my daughter and then indicated he had to move on to other patients. He was extremely rude. He ignored her on the way out and she is 22 years old. He literally made her burst out in tears. He indicated that her medication would probably start working which has one nose is a patient worst fear. That is not what we have been told by the other doctors in his group. Likewise he kept pushing a lumbar puncture which the physicians in his own group indicated was not a good decision for our daughter since she does not exhibit normal types of situations and they did not want to exacerbate her headaches. The Diamme ox is working and they felt that was the most conservative route. He insisted on wanting to touch my daughters scalp which is incredibly sensitive causing her pain for at least two days she was willing to show him where her pain is but there has been no evidence by any doctor that touching it helps them in anyway. We explain this but he did not care. After about making us wait for an over an hour and we were the first appointment he indicated after about eight minutes that he had other patients to see and left the room leaving us with no diagnosis, no additional medications, and refusing to even try to think about our daughters condition. I have never been more disappointed in the doctor and in Cleveland clinic's choice to have him be a representative of an institution that normally has a very fun reputation. This doctor should not be seeing patients. It is clear he doesn't remember why he became a doctor or what doctors are supposed to do but clearly patients and their feelings are not a priority on his list.
