Stephen Leslie "Les" Tobias, MD, FACC, FSCAI is an Interventional Cardiologist in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic-Florida.
Dr. Tobias is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology and interventional cardiology. His specialty is the non-surgical treatment of coronary artery disease, with particular emphasis on complex coronary interventions (angioplasties and stents).
Dr. Tobias was born in South Africa and received his medical school training at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship in South Africa and served as a physician in the South African Medical Corps. He immigrated to the United States in 1989 and received additional residency training in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, where he was also the chief resident. In 1991, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, NasHVTIlle, Tennessee as an interventional cardiologist. During his tenure, he was medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the VA Medical Center. In 1994 he joined Akron General Medical Center, Akron, Ohio as an interventional cardiologist until transferring to the Cleveland Clinic - Florida in May 2016.
He has had more than 25 years of experience in treating patients with complex coronary artery disease, having performed in excess of 10,000 cardiac catheterizations, coronary angioplasties and stents. He started Akron's first transradial program (wrist approach to cardiac catheterization) in 2010 and has personally performed more than 700 procedures.
He has had extensive experience treating patients with STEMI's (heart attacks) and was responsible for Cleveland Clinic - Akron General to be the first accredited Chest Pain Center in the area.

Dr. Tobias listened when I told him about a slew of expensive genetic tests another doctor with another hospital affiliation kept pressing me to have, and we discussed whether or not it was necessary or helpful for my treatment. Dr. Tobias told me that at my age It would not change my treatment but that someone much younger might benefit eventually from such testing. I passed along his point of view to my son, who has now said that he might look into it. I very much appreciated his practical explanation!!

I was referred to Dr. Tobias by primary care physician- Dr. Meier. It was to follow up on a recently completed calcium C scan. I explained the situation to the nurse and she was very helpful in setting up my appointment.

Dr. Tobias was very nice and extremely empathetic regarding the results of my Calcium C score. He broke the info into very easy to understand components including making a drawing of how plaque builds up in the heart's arteries. He also referenced my score relative to other scores he's seen in other patients, and the approach he took with their treatments. This made me very relieved and I felt very confident with how we would move forward with my treatment.

His manner and expertise allowed me to have confidence in placing my healthcare in his hands. In addition, unlike many doctors, Dr Tobias took the time to call me and give me my results, even though I could have looked it up in My Chart. This type of interaction is rare theses days. I have been a patient of Dr. Tobias for over ten years. I changed cardiologists because of the lack of responsiveness by my previous cardiologist. Dr. Tobias' scheduling allows me to get in to see him in a reasonable time. He is also prompt in returning emails via the patient portal. He is thorough, very attentive, and spends as much time as needed yo address my concerns. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a cardiologist with extensive experience and excellent patient relationship skills.

I had a very pleasant visit with Dr. Tobias his demeanor, humbleness, patience and sense of being educated and experienced Is unmatched. I have a slight murmur so each year I would get an echo done. I decided to try a different cardiologist to Inquire about calcium test and not only was my exam thorough he listened to my concers and made sound educated recommendation. This was my first visit with him and I was very pleased with his service.

Fran and Amy are wonderful I can't describe how amazing and Fran dealing with my insurer just fantastic there both huge assets to your excellent hospital. Dr. Tobias skipped his lunch to squeeze me in but took his time examining me and was great in explaining everything regarding my condition as well as the surgical procedure he will be doing to me on the 18th of May this coming Thursday.
