Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/17/2021, Dr. Vorster has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. *Dr. Vorster and *Andrew Fitzgerald were great.

Reviewed on Jun 15, 2021

Dr. Vorster showed me and discussed with my husband and I everything we needed to know. he reviewed MRI images and told me what I should have been told by others long ago. I have a great respect for him, we may not always get the best news but his honesty is what I needed. I only wish we could have seen Dr. Vorster sooner.

good experience, Dr. was kind and compassionate.

Reviewed on Jun 11, 2021

He was very thorough and comprehensive in his explanation of my condition. He repeated his findings and showed me images as he described my prognosis. However, I felt as though I was being reprimanded for seeking treatment, as it took numerous doctors and tests to finally get a detailed explanation. Although my symptoms are progressive and could lead to my being disabled, I felt as though I were being discouraged from seeking a professional to, not only diagnose my issues, but treat them. Although he was very detailed, I was left trying to determine where do I go next to treat the problem.

Reviewed on Jun 10, 2021

Dr. Vorster was very kind and explained the treatment that I needed very well. He took time to speak with me about my condition. I hand-carried my films from procedures I had outside the Clinic and I'm not sure that Dr. Vorster looked at all of them because he asked questions about having procedures that I'd already had and results were present. I was a little dismayed at first because Dr. Vorster doesn't do the treatment that he said I needed but that wasn't his fault.

Dr Vorster is an outstanding doctor. He is personable, compassionate, and takes time with you. I am so very blessed that he was the surgeon performing my surgeries. I was more than just a "surgical case" to him. He has a great sense of humor as well! I would not hesitate for a second in recommending him to anyone who would need his care.

Dr Vorster's candor and attitude is appreciated. He makes me feel like I matter, which is more than I can say about my doctor's here in california.

when he saw my parents were present, he stopped and included them in the visit and asked if they had concerns. Dr Vorster is extremely pleasant, professional, and he explains everything perfectly. I'm a nurse but this is new to me. He takes my profession into account but understands that I don't know everything about brain surgery. I am so glad I found him.

I have a lengthy medical history, and this doctor was easily a top 3 all time provider from the initial appointment. He was respectful, dynamic, clearly knowledgeable, and frankly an obvious expert both in his field and in caring for patients.

Dr took the time to explain everything to me. We both came to a great decision as to what would be best for me. He acknowledged my fears and told me what I may expect so I'd most definitely recommend him to everyone.

I had an outstanding surgeon! His team is excellent - (*Dr. Vorster).

Reviewed on Nov 5, 2020

Both the PA and the Physician were very professional but more than anything, they made me feel as if I was their number one priority. They were kind, attentive, caring, compassionate, had informed me that they reviewed my case prior to my visit and gave me every confidence possible in my treatment from their care. They also provided me individual care that was focused on my values. That was extremely important to me.

Dr. Vorster is very good at describing my condition by drawing images, showing my scans and putting it all into simpler terms. He is funny and very friendly. A good doctor who put my mind at ease.

Dr Vorster is a knowledgable and a wonderful DR. he clearly shares info and explains complicated issues in a way that gives clear understanding. As a brain neuro patient, I have encountered many neurosurgeons as dismissive. He truly listens and then explains why this symptom is happening. He makes a clear plan so i know where I am headed and what steps I need to follow. I am truly grateful he is my chiari doctor and my neurosurgen. He is the best.
