Biography

About Sudha Amarnath, MD

Sudha Amarnath, MD is a Radiation Oncologist who has been in practice since 2013. She is Director of Gynecologic and Colorectal Malignancies in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Taussig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Amarnath received a Bachelor’s in Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor’s in Science Degree in Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While at MIT, she received the prestigious Robert T. Haslam Cup in Chemical Engineering and membership into Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi Honor Societies. She subsequently received her Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University Of Michigan School Of Medicine where she was a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year of residency. She is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the American Association of Women in Radiology (AAWR).

Dr. Amarnath specializes in the treatment of gynecologic and colorectal cancers with research interests in female sexual dysfunction and quality of life after pelvic radiation and inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic radiation. In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. Amarnath has a passion for education and received the Association of  Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Educator of the Year award in 2014. She serves as the Medical Student Clerkship Director and Associate Residency Program Director for the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Amarnath is also highly active in cancer programming efforts and serves on several committees within the Taussig Cancer Institute that aim to improve the quality of care delivered to cancer patients. She is currently working on the development of leadership and mentorship programs for residents and junior faculty in the Taussig Cancer Institute and Women’s Health Institute. Dr. Amarnath resides in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Amarnath is a kind doctor whose creative approach to a difficult case is refreshing. She was thinking on her feet and out loud so we could hear her ideas. We look forward to seeing her recommendations. We appreciate her willingness to talk with our local radiation oncologist. If our local radiation oncologist won't help, we are welcome to Cleveland. She was kind and open to our concerns.

Dr. Amarnath is the reason I decided to receive the radiation here. I have re-arranged my life with the added expense of a hotel and commutes specifically because she engenders trust and confidence to deliver the best possible outcome in treating this cancer because of her skill and individualized approach. The level of professionalism from her and the Cleveland Clinic was simply not available near my home.
